A. Hauntess' Bog of a Blog * VVitchcraft + Paranormal musing

From Books to Blogs here you’ll find a compilation of our most turned to and trusted resources.

Disclaimer & Discernment:

1) Everything is translated from the personal gnosis and academic standpoint of the author(s) and the times in which they lived.

2) Be ready to drop an author, however beloved their work is, if they are discovered to be problematic, racists or bigoted. The Nordic path and the reousrces available to us especially need to be examined regularly.

3) It can be very helpful to journal as you study and read through. This can be an  important process to discovering your own personal gnosis within your pagan path. Your personal experience is important, don’t discount it. Whether it is witchcraft, herbal, Nordic, Celtic or any occult teachings.

4) Stay away from anything associated or vetted by the AFA - they are a dangerous organization and should not be taken seriously or even considered when researching Norse information.

5) When someone recommends an author or pagan resource, vet them yourself. Do your own research before consuming. Examine the language the authors use, be discerning. If they use ableist language or phrases, hold gender bias, outright bigotry, misogyny or racism. Immediately no.

6) We are all learning, if someone says they know it all, run far far away.

I (Amanda) have been vetting and sourcing recommendations for people at every stage of their spiritual journey. One of my primary roles at Phoenix Rising Metaphysical Emporium was to scrutinize and invest time in finding and weeding out many authors, books and sources.

Discernment is a skill, and should be flexed often.  I always aim to  come from a place of curiosity, but if something is overtly conflated, lacks citing or is just overall trash I'll let you know from an honest perspective.

We have SO many recs for Occult studies, Paranormal Research, Pagan paths, Witchcraft and more!  We’re compiling and adding as we have time to - so check back for another rec list soon!

Frightfully Delightful's REPOSITORY of Resources & Reading

Updated as of October 29th, 2024

Citing our sources, sharing resources and sharing where we gleaned information from is a priority.

We love a good stream of consciousness session, - we are Psychic Mediums after all - but when we are referencing material specific to another person, we take NOTES and refer back to them. Seriously, you should see the insides of these books - they are annotated and dog eared to oblivion and back.

We THIRST for knowledge and research is VERY important to us. Giving credit where it is due is at the forefront, it's one of the reasons our show-notes for our Podcast are so long. We want you to be informed.

We also advocate strongly for journaling, some days we have brains like a colander and we don't want good bits of info dropping off into the ether never to be experienced again. Don't forget to DATE the pages!

Our point is we inform people where our techniques and inspiration comes from. The paranormal world is full of gatekeeping and resource hoarding. Some folks can be very territorial and down right rude, or make folks feel like their presence is "taking away" from them. Recognition is TOP of mind for a lot of those explorers and investigators. But that's not our jam or goal. Recognition is important, but it's not our "why" we as Co-Specters within Frightfully Delightful are on this journey or feel passionate about Weaving within the Wyrd and Bewitching the Paranormal.

You get it, citing is important to us - on to the rest of the post........

There are SO many different veins and avenues of interest that intersect within the Paranormal and Witchcraft / Metaphysical / Spiritual spaces.

I, (Amanda) approach the paranormal through my belief and practice of animism, viewing all things, be they animals, plants, objects, homes, humans or landscapes- as possessing distinct spirits, agency, and interwoven energies. This perspective is essential to understanding the book choices in this repository. While some selections are not solely focused on the paranormal, they provide valuable insights into the underlying principles that shape our interactions with the unseen. By broadening our perspective, these resources deepen our understanding of the supernatural, helping us appreciate the complex web of spirit, life, and connection in all things.

The lists below are by no means exhaustive - this will forever be a living document and central repository. We will continue to update it for time immemorial.

We invite you to explore:

Witchcraft & Personal Spiritual Development

Authors of intense importance!

  • Juliet Diaz - Full stop. Everything she has written is empowering and entirely magic. There is a large emphasis on personal development, and doing real work within your practice. The Altar Within changed my entire life. I will forever be grateful for Juliet, her words, magic and art.
  • Danielle Dulsky - My reverence for word witchery and spinning stories from my personal realms has developed ten fold throughout the years I have been digesting Danielle’s words. Her classes, Hag School, Books and Deck are resources I often turn to.
  • Laura Tempest Zakroff - I can’t remember if I had Sigil Witchery first or Weaving the Liminal, either way, Laura’s work has been integral to my craft as a metaphysical artist and practitioner.

An entirety haphazard categorization in no specific order.

Books I wish I could time travel to my 16 year old self and give, with annotations and highlights:

Witchery - Juliet Diaz

The Altar Within - Juliet Diaz

Plant Witchery - Juliet Diaz

Holy Wild . A Heathen Bible for the Untamed Womxn - Danielle Dulsky

Seasons of Moon and Flame - Danielle Dulsky

The Holy Wild Grimoire - Danielle Dulsky

Bones & Honey - Danielle Dulsky

Weaving the Liminal - Laura Tempest Zakroff

Sigil Witchery - Laura Tempest Zakroff

Visual Alchemy - Laura Tempest Zakroff

Cauldrons - Laura Tempest Zakroff
